Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month: Raising Awareness and Taking Action

June is recognized globally as Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month—a dedicated time to unite efforts in raising awareness, challenging stigma, and supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.

Why Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month Matters

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, accounting for 60–80% of cases globally. It progressively impairs memory, thinking, and daily functioning, deeply affecting patients, families, and caregivers.

With over 2.4 crore people living with Alzheimer’s and forecasts showing a four-fold rise by 2050, awareness and timely care are more important than ever. Misconceptions—like believing dementia is a normal part of aging—can prevent timely diagnosis and support.

Theme for 2025: “Time to Act on Dementia, Time to Act on Alzheimer’s”

This year’s theme calls on everyone—doctors, caregivers, communities, and governments—to recognize symptoms early, fight discrimination, and build a dementia-friendly world. It urges us to:

  • Identify early warning signs and seek timely diagnosis
  • Support families socially and emotionally
  • Push for better care access and treatments
  • Promote research and innovation

Recognizing the Signs and Importance of Early Detection

Early signs include short-term memory issues, communication difficulties, behavioral changes, and daily task challenges. Detecting these early helps with planning, interventions, and improving life quality.

How You Can Help

  • Educate: Understand symptoms and resources, and share with others.
  • Wear Purple: Symbolize your support and spark dialogue.
  • Support Caregivers: Offer emotional, social, or practical help.
  • Adopt Healthy Habits: Exercise, nutritious diet, social activity, mental stimulation, and sleep all contribute to brain health.
  • Be an Advocate: Join awareness drives, volunteer, and urge policy changes.

A Message of Hope

Though there’s no cure yet, early detection and holistic care can drastically improve outcomes. This June, let’s break the silence, challenge myths, and foster compassion and action.

If you or a loved one is experiencing memory issues, consult a healthcare provider. At Chandan Hospital, we’re dedicated to providing the latest neurological care with compassion.

Together, let’s act on Alzheimer’s—because every moment counts.
